I went to high school with both Melissa and Doug. A couple years ago Melissa had mentioned she saw some photos of me and wondered where I got them because she was looking for some couple photos for her and Doug. I had passed on a couple photographer friends names but months later still didn’t see any photos of them. So in Christmas 2011, I was about to make a trip back to BC and I wrote Melissa a quick email telling her that I was now doing the photography and that if she is still interested I would love to do some couple’s photos for them! She jumped right on the bandwagon and we set a date! We had pretty excellent weather for December, minus light spouts of rain ( It’s Vancouver, what do you expect?), and we set off to take some beautiful photos.
Fast forward a couple months and I see the news that Melissa is expecting. Before I could even finish writing “Congrats” she messaged me asking when I was in BC next to do some Maternity photos. I told her August. “Perfect”. It was hotter than expected at 6pm in August. All three of us were sweating like crazy under the open sun and were seeking shade anywhere and everywhere. Melissa was now 8 months pregnant and they had recently become engaged. We were so thrilled with the outcome of those photos, that after the baby was born, Mel insisted that I take photos of Emily when I came back at Christmas this year. Instead of getting “newborn” pictures, she waited 3 months for me to come back just so we could shoot together. Again, the weather for December was amazing. No rain this time, but it was a tad chilly and windy for baby Emily. We took our time, had a lot of laughs, even let me hold baby Emily for a while. ( She is SO CUTE! ).
It is friends, and clients, like these that make my “job” worth while. I was able to witness so much growth ( literally and figuratively ), within a year. They trusted me to make their memories not once, not twice, but three times. Looking back on the photos, not only did they grow and evolve as a couple into a family, but I have grown and evolved as an artist and professional. They have faith in me, and followed me along my journey, as well as me along with theirs.
Thank you Melissa and Doug (and Emily ) for everything.
